Computery Art

So this is a public art installation that wifey's work, Glass Project, did for a technical college in CT. They are looking for a name for it. It's inspired by computer circuitry, and would like the name to reflect that. The one that I like best from the first batch of candidates is "Scope and Sequence."

I was wondering if any of you had some circuit / computer / display / suggestions. I can promise you will not be richly compensated for your contribution, but you will have my undying gratitudes:

I have tried Blogger Dashboard, Google Reader, Google Blogger Gadget, and a number of other tools - but there is NO WAY to 1) be emailed new comments (on all entries), or 2) view/sort comments (irrespective of entry). Instead I am relegated to slogging through every entry (as Fists did last night after I told him I had commented on 'a bunch of entries'), or (after doing one complete pass through all the entries) writing down the number of comments on each entry and checking for changes every hour/day/whatever.

The problem of course is that I'm thinking of this blog like a forum, where various threads have a life of their own - when what I should really be doing is acting like the lastest blog entry is the only one in the known universe. You'd think somebody would add a 'view as forum' option that would let you sort blog entries by the most recent activity (or at least flag it as 'unread').

So I just finished watching 2001: A Space Odyssey. (yeah I know). So: WTF! Mys am confused.

Is the monolith sort of like that probe in ST:NG that flashes Cmmdr Barkley with the light that makes him into a genius?

It seems like the monolith is there at each important stage of human evomalution...is the Star Child at the end just the next step in our advancement? I understand the need to be poetical and stuff at the end, but that aging sequence was straight out of the David Lynch manual. WTF!!!!

If that be the case it seems similar to Childhood's End.

This is Where I Fag Myself Up Bigtime

My criteria for The Five is sort of about the idea of durable goods. The movies that give you the most "take-home" or had the longest impact. Often a movie that I don't really enjoy that much at the time or don't even have that strong of a desire to see again will really give me something to hamster-wheel on for a while. Memento and Waking Life are good essamples of this (particularly the "climax", Guy Pierce's little self-talk where he lets go of the steering wheel, very near the end).

My top five in no order:

Bander, your list guesses for me are good in spirit - and some probably hit the mark (though not Batman. I liked it quite a bit, but wouldn't find a place for it in my favs). It's funny, I was actually just thinking about my favs, and came to the conclusion that I have to list mine in categories. Spinal Tap would definitely be in my list for comedy.
