I was discussing this a few weeks ago with mumps. I'm not sure I like where I see this going, although it's not like the Star Trek movies set some super-high standard of excellence.

But making the entire crew of the ship look like a bunch of 19 year olds from "The Hills" just smacks of the same kind of thinking that determined that we needed "Muppet Babies". Plus, Kirk is supposed to be kick-ass, not look like a fucking tool.

But...I liked Muppet Babies.

Anyway, I see where you're going with this. However, It still HAS to be better than the vast majority of ST movies.

Honestly, ST movies have sucked hooawwrd since Nemesis. Kirk is a kick-ass tool, so you both got it kinda right.

Umm, and Insurrection.

I think the only good movie with the new cast was First Contact.

Wasn't Nemesis the most recent ST film?

Good point. Is this Bander's way of saying he's loved them all?

Yes, LOVED!!!!

What I meant was they sucked AFTER First Contact. I think there were two since then. Insurrection was the one I wisely walked out of after about fifteen minutes. (After Picard, Worf (I think) and Data's head were driving around on dune buggies because "it was cool.")

Loved Khan... enjoyed Save the Whales... Undiscovered Country was OK (especially scenes on the prison planet)... First Contact was OK too, though the cringeworthiness spiked at 104% at times... Generations was so flawed my nephew and I have spent -hours- discussing all the ways in which it didn't make sense... watchable on TV... disliked INTENSELY all the ones i haven't mentioned, with the exception of Nemesis - caught a little bit of it on cable a while ago, and (not having just paid for a ticket or had my hopes dashed) thought it was about as good as a double-episode of Next Generation.
