The trick is to NOT leave all your wool sweaters packed around the exhaust/intake panels.

Our first red ring! I couldn't be prouder.

I had some near-RROD experiences myself, until I moved the 360 out of my media cabinet and left it sitting out in the open.

On a related note, last week I was teaching a class at IBM's 300mm fab in Fishkill, NY ( viewable in its robotic glory here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kwQ_AB-dC18 ), and in the entryway, they had a Wii, PS3, and 360 all running (with controllers available), as the fab is responsible for manufacturing the processor for all 3 machines. Good luck playing any games on the 360, though - it was in red-ring state (although not "of death" - only 2 segments).

Way to market, IBM!

Good point for Bander. Did you try booting it again? Or just turn it off in panic. You might want to try pulling it out of where it sits, and start it up.

3 segments equals total death. No point booting up.

3 segments also means new Xbox from MS for no charge - part of the multi-billion dollar loss you may have heard about.

Ahh, the rule of three.

That sucks.

Free replacement is nice, but I wonder how long we'll be bander-free?

"In the USA, if the Xbox 360 owner does indeed have three flashing red lights, it is recommended that the owner call the local Xbox support line (1-800-4-MY-XBOX in the US) as quickly as possible."

"Within a period of 2-10 weeks, the repaired, refurbished, or in some cases, replaced 360 will be shipped back to the owner"

Get a move on!
